V7 Navigation 1000 Menu-button bug fix
Those who have a V7 Navigation 1000 have probably noticed that the Menu (M) button doesn't actually go to the menu. It doesn't do much of anything actually (other than behave as "up" for a few menus), which is quite disappointing since there are only really 3 buttons you can use on the front (excluding the backlight on/off button) and the other two you will usually want to keep at their default functionality (zooming in and out).Oh hey, what do you know - if you followed the instructions in my last blog entry, you will have access to change this!
- Plug the V7 Navigation 1000 into a USB port on your computer and turn it on.
- Browse to \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ in Explorer (on the PC, not the GPS).
- Copy the 1.3mb Data.zip to your PC's hard drive.
- Rename the Data.zip on the GPS to Data.orig (as a backup).
- Open the Data.zip that you copied to your PC and extract config\keybind.txt from the archive.
- Open keybind.txt in Notepad and scroll down to the [CARPOINTA1000] section.
- Below this, add the following line: UP="ROUTEINFO". The section will now look like this:

UP="ROUTEINFO"
39="ZOOMIN_DISCRETE"
37="ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE" - Save keybind.txt and replace the original keybind.txt in Data.zip with your edited keybind.txt. Make sure that you actually replace the file and that it goes into the correct directory of Data.zip.
- Copy the updated Data.zip back to the GPS (put it back in \Flash Disk\MyGuide\).
Done and done! You can now start MyGuide and the Menu (M) button will now behave just like going to Route > Info.
You can actually replace ROUTEINFO with many other useful commands, of which MAINMENU is a good choice (as it is obviously the intended behavior of the Menu button, but I found ROUTEINFO to be more useful personally). Have a look through keybind.txt to get an idea of what other commands you can try.
Of course, if you don't use the zoom in/out buttons, you can change the bindings on those too.

Hi David,
it's weird, i can't find the data.zip file in "\Flash Disk\MyGuide\" directory in Explorer(card reader on the pc). i tried to search in DVD also, under Myguide dir, just three subdir which r lang,maps,voices.
Maybe you can email me this file.

The Data.zip located in "\Flash Disk\MyGuide\" is only accessible if you do the hardware modifications in my previous blog post, Hacking the V7 Navigation 1000 GPS.
It should be noted that there are TWO files called Data.zip - it's the one in "\Flash Disk\MyGuide\" that you should be working with for the menu-button bug fix.
Richard....you wrong on that. No Hardware mod needs to be done, as long as you add the Windows CE Icon to the Unit. That will give you access to explorer on the unit. Then you can copy the DATA.ZIP to your SD Card, modify it on your PC and copy it back. No need to make any Hardware changes to the unit.
I tried it and was able to assign the button with no problems using the CE Operating System.

I had a very nice time implementing this trick on a myguidegps 3300 series.
The whole zipping thing was unnessacary I only modified the file igopath.txt in the dir representing the onboard flashdisk.
Only thing I needed was the activesync-software from microsoft.
Transferring the file to my computer by (now built-in)USB-port was easy and editing with notepad as well.
I added the following line under the header [Multimedia]:
Explorer= "icons/files.bmp", "\\windows\explorer.exe".
After rebooting the device nothing happened until I switched language settings.
rebooting again, an extra icon appeared under multimedia.
I used the windowsce acces to add an owners splashscreen to my guide-unit. Then I replaced the original path file.
Nice anti-theft measure as the splash can't be easily removed.

Guys, I was wondering if someone can help me out here...
I got the V7 1000 which I had it updated over at the manufacturer last year with the new maps, got the new DVD, etc. The US maps work fine, except once coming from Florida the unit crashed and upon restart it wouldn't display the navigation button. After it cooled down, it started working ok again.
I tried to modify the addons.txt but when I start the unit I get a message on a window called MyGuideLauncher with the following text: "Exception Occured, Callstack dumped to \crash.txt" and upon clicking the ok button the screen defaults to the initialization screed with the MyGuide logo.
Really what I want to do is to use the European maps I got from Igo software, not sure how to make them work. I am thinking to make the hardware change but as someone else posted here apparently there is no need to do that as long as you can explore the now "new windoze CE". Thank you for your help!

Can you please help me with using my MioMap, yesterday it gave a message "Exception occured callstack dumped to \crash.txt" I restarted the machine, reset it but still no sucess, can you please suggest me what can i do in this case?
